Reason for choosing this topic:
The intended topic of this blog is to analyze the economic impact of international corporations and the sweatshop labor that supports them. We will be researching and posting information and our analysis and opinions on what we find throughout the semester. After a visit to Maquila site in Tiajuana, Mexico last year, I was upset and energized to educate people on the horrifying working conditions of the factories, as well as the environmental damage being done by unregulated industrial production. I spoke (through an interpreter) to some women who worked for American corporations that are allowed to send raw materials to Mexico for processing, and thereby avoiding regulations by OSHA, EPA, labor unions and tax laws.
I wonder if the workers as well as the consumers are hurt by the unregulated nature of international corporations?
